   I make most thumbnails using a program called Webpage Thumbnailer. But you can do the same on your own. With the website open on your desktop, capture the screen using the PRINTSCREEN button. Then open a 1024×728 new picture in your favorite graphics program. I mostly use GIMP. Paste your screen shot into the new canvas and move the image untill the webpage is centered properly. Then you can scale the image to any size you need.

   oh.. I thought that this should be much simpler…

   May be some plugin for WP that dinamically generates such elements
